Disney’s The Jungle Book

Female Roles

“Adolescence for girls in the United States has been characterized as “a troubled crossing” a period marked by severe psychological and emotional stresses.”  (Durham 193)

“When a female of the man–cub’s own species finally appears at the end of the film, she is diminished, housework orientated and apart from singing singularly bereft of conversation.”  (Bowden 3)

My Observation

My observation: At the ending, the man-cub is taken to the human village.  The only reason he went was because of the girl.  None of the main characters are women.  It was troubling for all the animals in the jungle when the girl took Mowgli away to the village. There were two women in this movie, the wolf mother and the girl at the end.  They didn't have any role in this movie except to take care of Mowgli for the best.
